I would like to actively use all the words I heard in this story. That’s why I will have to listen to it tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. And during the day I will write down new stories that will contain words from today’s story.
So nice surprise to have opportunity to watch and listen to David Sedaris reading his own story! It’s really icing on the cake! Thank you for this.
I’ll remember many phrases, I think. Even now I have my favourite parts in the story, that I already know by heart.
– being farly competitive
– stumbling trough your door
– recently he resides in Spain
– they are just so silly
– no one can spy on him
– bed time story
These phrases I like, how it sounds and I wouldn’t say this way for sure, so I would like to remember for example:
– arm himself whatever he gest in his hands on
– the word normally reserved for
– one doesn’t wanna be to much of cultural chauvinist
This story is simply brilliant!
Wow! This video is very difficult for me. Although I don’t understand to all, I like watching the video again and again. The author of the tale is very funny and I like to listen to him. I caught some sentences – phrases, which I want to remember.
+ slavery and friendship
+ Saint Nicolas wil kick you
+ punishment
+ if you good and live in America
+ I couldn’t help but feeling second rate
+ proud to be America ( in my case Czech)
I want to try Soňa’s receipe: If I listen this video very often, I will understand better.
This listening is not so easy for me. And this story is s bit longer… but I have read it and now I have listened it. I think David Sedaris is not very famous in our country (or?) I have read about him in Google. Some his books have been translated in into Czech. I have ordered a book in our library. Than I will tell you… 😊
I am looking forward to your report, Dana! I really like his sense of humour.
I must say, during the listening I have caught only a basic idea. I sorted out this problem by reading the text. That’s made me fun!
…what’s not to love about being Dutch?
He spends a few weeks hanging out and asking people what they want.
“We don’t know for sure, but we want you to be prepared.”
Hi Jana, this text is for native speakers and it is humorous and it is difficult for English students. So to catch the basic idea is just fine. It is great that reading helped you understand some funny points. The tale makes me laugh every time I listen to it.
I love the way you give us a feedback. Thank you so much!
I like this phrases:
A numbers mean nothing to me
Bide your time
One doesn’t want to be too much of…annoying, rude (for example)
The story is still very difficult for me.
I would like to remember and active use all the words I learned about this story in Quizlet.
Unfortunately I still can’t realize them during the story.
That’s okay Lenka. Maybe you can try and print out the Quizlet words for this story and keep them next to you when reading and listening to the story. This way you can pause the story when you need to and take the time you need to understand them while you’re reading/listening to the story.
